![]() ![]() Measuring up to its vintage standard, the 37mm case watch makes a larger impression on the wrist than would be expected, due to its smart body structure. The classic Roger Dubuis Hommage H37 has a distinct white gold case with a polished finish on the concave bezel and lugs, featuring sides with a satin brushed finish. Most of them are changing hands privately because of their limited availability on the market. Very few of these models were made, only 28 pieces per edition, adding to the rarity of these special editions. The early days models such as the Hommage are now highly sought after as they were created under the hands of the company’s co-founder Roger Dubuis. Some years later – in 2014 – Richemont acquired the remaining 40% of Roger Dubuis. In 2008 the eponymous brand became part of the Richemont Group, by selling 60% of its shares. Roger Dubuis left the company in 2005 after having produced many innovative in-house movements. Out of this mindset the first two collections of Roger Dubuis were born in 1996: Sympathie and Hommage, paying respect to historically important vintage timepieces. The company took great inspiration from Dubuis’ extensive experience at Patek Philippe and took pride in challenging Dubuis’ former employer in terms of exceeding their horological high standard. Soon Roger Dubuis became known for its idiosyncratic design and fine movement finishing while having a disruptive vision: approaching complications as an art form. It was in 1995 that he, together with businessman and watch designer Carlos Dias, decided to bring his name to the world’s stage. His name became an equivalent for haute horlogerie. The following two decades of his professional endeavors he worked at Patek Philippe in the complications department, constructing and perfecting the movements of perpetual calendars, gongs and minute repeaters. What is known is that he has spent 9 years at the after sales atelier of Longines, mainly repairing chronographs from the late fifties onwards. Roger Dubuis (1938-2017) was a watchmaker with an extraordinary vision of which little is known in the mainly analogue postwar period. The story all starts with the Swiss founder Roger Dubuis himself, a watchmaking mystery turned into genius. It has been fitted by a custom made grey strap to contrast well with the dial. The watch comes with its original box and manual. That is why Mr Dubuis felt it was crucial to have the same hallmark. At the time of production, it was mainly Patek Philippe movements that carried the Seal of Geneva. The watch bears the Seal of Geneva and was regulated by Roger Dubuis himself. ![]() The watch is very easy to set, there are 3 pushers on the case to sync the perpetual calendar. Red is the leap year, yellow is the first year, green the second and blue the third year. The years are indicated with a window color indicator divided in 4 colors. In watchmaking, "perpetual calendar" describes a calendar mechanism that correctly displays the date on the watch 'perpetually', taking into account the different lengths of the months as well as leap years At 12, the day of the week and the month indication and between 2 and 3 a window year indicator. The dial is bright white lacquered and contrast well with the perpetual calendar. This Roger Dubuis Hommage Perpetual Calendar Window H37 has a date indication between 4 and 5. The beauty and complexity of the movement is revealed through an engraved sapphire case-back, p owered by the calibre RD5739. The white gold case is very distinct with its polished, concave bezel and polished lugs. For each variant in the series, there were no more than 28 made. Around the year 2000 Roger Dubuis produced only 28 of these watches. ![]() The H37 Window Perpetual Calendar presented today is o ne of the earlier pieces created by the legendary watchmaker, before Roger Dubuis became a Richemont owned brand name in 2008. Roger Dubuis today has very little to do with the watchmaker himself but when he created the Hommage collection, you see a genuine reflection of the man himself.
